J.Smo If Julien the Child delivers an album full of songs as strong and solid as Self-Aware, the Memory Flu album is going to be a must add to all of our music collections. The hook has been stuck in my head since my first listen!

jendan Julien the Child drops a lo-fi, but highly emotive and lyrically thought-provoking (Oh, wait! Maybe we shouldn't 'think too much' about its meaning!) electronic pop track that grooves with a sing-song vibe and is punctuated by the artist's vivid exclamations.

Malika Dahl Upbeat song with deep lyrics. His voice changes from soft to scratchy in a split second, which gives the song a rock twist.
Can’t wait for more!

dominicwilliams86 Self-Aware is an interesting track. Oliver Elridge's vocal has more than a little Adam Levine sound to it. Self-Aware is one of those tracks that it might take a few listens to get into. Production wise, it's mostly spot on. I liked the piano intro, but the rest was a little too electronic.

"... Eldridge displays an infectious energy that not only pulls the listener in deeper and deeper, but will also have you reaching for the replay button as soon as the track comes to an end. A groovy yet direct bass line pairs perfectly with a catchy piano riff. Eldridge’s tremendous vocals take center stage as soon as the song’s blistering chorus gets going. 'Self-Aware' has the type of lyrics that really begin to speak to you on the second and even third listen. The thoughtful lyrics grab at the heartstrings as Eldridge bellows his heart out. In my opinion, this tune reminds me of the same frantic, yet genuine energy, channeled by one of my favorite indie-electronic bands Matt & Kim." - Jabari Kefele, Sensible Reason ("Self-Aware" single review)

"Inspired by the sonic simplicity of Joy Division, the lyrical depth of Bright Eyes and the pop experimentation of Radical Face and tUNe-yArDs, Eldridge showcases his own brand of indie electronic pop music." - Carlton Boyd, DOPECAUSEWESAID ("Self-Aware" single review)

"...[Eldridge's] voice is clear and high, and if you listen carefully you can hear snippets that promise a lot of vocal range. When he intensifies his voice, it takes on a raspy rumble that is very effective and adds depth and emotion to the lyrics... Julien the Child is self-aware enough to keep the melody on the healthy side of the experimentation-line." - Randy Radic, Huffington Post ("Self-Aware" single review)

"With an Indie-Electro-Pop flare, [Julien the Child] brings a vibrant sound to life... "Self-Aware," is a noteworthy new single that kicks off the Summer with a rising force. Not only did Eldridge write and perform the single, but he also took over... on engineer and producer duties as well. With the help of Dusty Moon in mixing and mastering, what we have is a single, that has us on the edge of the seat to hear what Julien the Child has to offer next." - Louise Parker, Paste Magazine ("Self-Aware" single review)

"I feel like, even as a one-man-band, seeing Eldridge live would be an amazing thing. The harmony vocals on this song are awesome as well. I hadn’t noticed them the first time I listened through, as I was focused on Eldridge’s own vocals, which are amazing." - Yvonne Glasgow, Beat ("Self-Aware" single review)

"Oliver’s songwriting and vocals combined definitely showcases not only his lyrical skills, but it makes his style and sound unique in the world of indie electronic pop." - The Music Court ("Self-Aware" single review)

"The track shares similarities in sound with indie-electronic band Passion Pit, and the background instrumentation is remindful of a few tunes by MGMT, but Eldridge is able to retain a sense of individualism through his unique vocal showcase... the mastermind behind Julien The Child has been writing songs since the age of 10, and it certainly shows. At a time when indie-electronic music is arguably cluttered with monotony, Eldridge proves that he can give the world something fresh and enjoyable." - Willard Givens, Audible Addixion ("Self-Aware" single review)

"Self-Aware is an electro-infused indie pop tune with a slight alternative rock edge. You can feel every word as Julien the Child‘s soulful, powerful vocals navigate our thoughts through an upbeat, lo-fi soundscape. Once the hook kicks in, you’re going to walk away singing it over and over long after the song ends. If Julien the Child delivers an album full of songs as strong and solid as Self-Aware, the Memory Flu album is going to be a must add to all of our music collections." - Joshua Smotherman, Middle Tennessee Music ("Self-Aware" single review)

"With the track’s catchy chorus and lyrics... you can tell Oliver is aware of how he feels. But he’s just one person, and his emotions can be felt through this song." - Melanie Gomez, CelebMix ("Self-Aware" single review)

"'Self-Aware' shows Oliver Eldridge (the project’s head) as a very capable and passionate songwriting, deftly mixing amped-up emotion with electro-pop melodic charm, with piano, bouncy percussion, and perky vocals combining for a fun and enthusiastic arsenal." Mike Mineo, Obscure Sound ("Self-Aware" single Review)

"If this song speaks at all about the music that will be contained in the rest of the album I will definitely be picking it up for my Bandcamp collection." - Yvonne Glasgow, Side Stage Magazine ("Self-Aware" single review)

LYRICS:

THERE STILL REMAINS WHAT YOU DON'T KNOW YET
AND I'M NOT TRYING TO TAKE THAT AWAY BUT
IT'S ALL THE SAME AND ONCE YOU KNOW IT
IT'S HARD TO FORGET AND YOU'LL WISH I HAD SPARED YOU THE PAIN

I WILL NEVER KNOW ENOUGH
YET IT'S STILL TOO MUCH
I AM JUST ONE MAN
YEAH
I THINK I'M THINKING TOO MUCH
OVERFLOWING LIKE A FLOOD
LIKE AN AVALANCHE
JUST LIKE AN AVALANCHE

I'M SO SELF-AWARE AND COMPREHEND ALL THAT YOU SAY, OH
I'M SO SELF-AWARE AND COMPREHEND ALL THAT YOU SAY, OH

IT'S NOT THAT I WISH THAT YOU WEREN'T HERE
BUT IT'S THAT I WISH WHAT HURT ME DIDN'T HURT YOU THE SAME
IT'S NOT THAT I WISH YOU WERE DIFFERENT
BUT IT'S THAT I WISH THAT YOU COULDN'T FEEL THIS KIND OF PAIN

I WILL NEVER KNOW ENOUGH
YET IT'S STILL TOO MUCH
I AM JUST ONE MAN
YEAH
I THINK I'M THINKING TOO MUCH
OVERFLOWING LIKE A FLOOD
LIKE AN AVALANCHE
JUST LIKE AN AVALANCHE

I'M SO SELF-AWARE AND COMPREHEND ALL THAT YOU SAY, OH
I'M SO SELF-AWARE AND COMPREHEND ALL THAT YOU SAY, OH

I'M SO SELF-AWARE AND COMPREHEND ALL THAT YOU SAY, OH
I'M SO SELF-AWARE AND COMPREHEND ALL THAT YOU SAY, OH
